Mother Brain and Samus by rubendevela Mother Brain and Samus by rubendevela
Another assignment for :iconartgerm: 's class!
The theme for this one was a personified/humanized creature or monster, and I chose Mother Brain from the Metroid series. I referenced the "tusked demon mask" look she had in the original game. Here they are in a boss room constructed from solid Zebetite :)
I learned a lot here in terms of shading. Cutting out the highlights on Samus' head to show the shadow of the giant hand makes it look a lot more realistic to me!

I don't quite have a backstory on what happened to Samus in this scene, but I'm sure she'll be fine...?

Ahh this looks really amazing!
Wonderful job, I love the humanized Mother Brain a lot. She's still as fierce as always! ^0^

Perhaps not? I made Samus' pose reminiscent of the Crystal Flash pose, her health regeneration move :)

This picture you've done featuring Samus getting captured by Mother Brain looks very nice and interesting for sure, and I also like the style you were able to depict Samus' arch-nemesis as well. :D

Very impressive work.:D (Big Grin)
It's uncanny how it resonates to one of the texts I published recently where Samus was kept hostage for a time by MotherBrain after the Chozo's sudden dissapearance. Before Zero Mission.
At that time, I imagined MotherBrain succombing to fear and, in her folly, inviting the Space Pirates to protect them -- she and Samus -- against the overseen rising menace against the entire galaxy (which caused the Chozo to leave to some). But since the Pirates were behind K2L's mass destruction, I imagined Samus not only reticent but clearly disaprooving this, becoming her own one-woman rebellion. MotherBrain had to keep her (at a young age) under sedatives nearly most of the time, until she fled and joined the Federation.
Althought MotherBrain did not have this body at the time, your drawing looks as if inspired from that state of emprisonement.
Not plugging, just relating, really.:drop:
I especially like the way you drew Samus, nearly in foetal form, and the noh mask -- it reminds me of my youth while watching Gatchaman.
The sense of perspective with the tubes under her arms is also very well thought of.

Insta-fav !
Maybe Mother-Brain is just visualizing her arch-ennemy traveling in her ship, as she heads to the new trap the space-pirate has set for her. "Soon we'll play together again, little child : I'll show you the depth of horror that lurks in the darkest corners of space. Sleep well until then."

The thing is, Samus can't be broken physically : all the games have shown it. Heck, even Quadraxis from Prime Echoes, which looked like a monstruous SoB, couldn't stop her.
Your illustration made me think that maybe Mother Brain stopped bothering with heavy weaponry and tried a more lovecraftian approach : if you can't break the shell, find a way to hurt what's inside; don't aim at the bounty-hunter, aim at the human instead.
