The Four Horsemen 02 by rubendevela The Four Horsemen 02 by rubendevela
It's these old characters [link] redone in a slightly more realistic style. (Yeah, I switched a couple of the symbols!)

I still think this counts as a "realistic manga style" but I'm not so sure... Whatcha think? I feel ok with it, but War's manic grin is disturbingly photographic compared to the others.

Big thanks to :iconsloppyperfectionist: who gave me the revelation I was drawing the same nose since... 1998?!?!

Here is the colored version [link]

I'm not sure I get the characterization of famine. I like war, though.

Yeah! Nobody likes her, not even me. She doesn't line up with an archetype :XD:

Well, the only other personifications of the Horsemen are Pratchett and Gaiman's in Good Omens, and now I'm having a hard time thinking of them any other way.

But archetypes aren't all that matters. I don't think your Death looks very...dead, but I like the character design anyway.

I think War looks like my kind of lady. Actually she looks disturbingly like someone I once dated... Hey speaks to the realism of the look you've got going here heh. Splendid good work here. Noses can be tricky to make unique since it's the subtle differences that make the difference in real life. When it comes to drawing them, it's difficult to stray away from the template without making a character seem out of place or like they were jibbed into getting the "awkward" nose. You did rather well here though.

Thanks! I'm still struggling with noses for this style, though. I'm afraid too much realism might wipe out all the character?

Well it creates a lot of individual character per character. As always, there's a sacrifice of cartoonish stylization whenever you try to be more true to real life, but this looks really spiffy. If it bothers you, you could always try to develop multiple looks. One for serious business and one for more personalized look. The color version of this is also pretty rad by the way.

Love it like I love the original picture.
Just one thing: Compared to the old one you switched symbols of pestilence and famine. Is that on purpose?

Yup! I was getting comments that were confused on the symbols, and that they should be switched. I eventually agreed with them haha
