The Grand Inquisitors are elite clerical warriors of the Spanish Empire equipped with steam-powered mechanical armor, fitted with Toledo steel and sacred artifacts. Blessed by the Holy See, these fanatical remnants of the Inquisition have been given renewed power by the Industrial Revolution and sacred relics from Rome. Sent as a desperate act to quell rebellion, these holy warriors are now tasked with rooting out heretics and filibusters from distant colonies. As the 19th century draws to a close, the Grand Inquisitors find themselves in the midst of a rising conflict against their waning empire that may lead to a revolution.

Production notes: I always wanted a steam-powered Catholic mecha. I drew on a bunch of references: I think it looks like a cross between a Sazabi, a Guymelef, a Sto Nino statue, and a bunch of motorcycle parts. It has Samus' thighs.
After a week of planning, I rushed this pic for a convention's mecha design contest. I began the lineart at 6 pm last night and had it printed at noon. Didn't win, but that's ok.
Bits of it came out different from what I planned, but I'm fairly happy with it. I don't know If I still want to finsih this to the original vision.
The idea was what Jose Rizal's stories might have been like if he also liked giant airships and powered armor. :XD:

Nobody expects--

Ah...I won't finish that.

Awesome mecha, I think Joe Cool there is screwed.
:iconrubendevela:
Hahahah! That's a classic character from a book we were required to study in highschool! I think this must be the first time in 100 years for him to be reffered to as "Joe Cool" XD

Hoping to play: Eternal Sonata and Tales of Vesperia (PS3)

Awesome. I love how the mech's design is smooth, but not in a futuristic sense; it really gives the impression of a large animated suit of plate mail. The rapier is a nice touch, as well.

My only complaint is that guy's snub-nosed revolver. It looks like its made out of play-dough or something; the lines aren't straight. Its not an especially big eyesore or anything--indeed, I don't think anyone would really notice, compared to the large robot, but still.

You might also find the San Agustin cathedral XD

Yeah, I hate that gun, too. It was the last thing I colored before I ran out the door to submit it. :)

What an interesting concept. I love the way the mech turned out. The similarities to Sazabi are noticeable but yet it has an original look. The "beam cross" weapon is a very nice design. Will you make a story out of this or is it just a concept for this peace. I would love to read a story as such!
